AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals LP Postdoctoral Research Scientist, Advancing Oncology drug discovery through application of a novel 3D assay that preserves the tumour microenvironment in United Kingdom
Location- Cambridge UK
If you’re inspired to work for a world premier biotechnology company delivering life-changing products– join us.
MedImmune is the worldwide biologics research and development arm of AstraZeneca. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives every day. As one of the world’s premier biotechnology companies, our mission is centered on delivering life-changing products that advance world health, and help fight and cure disease.
Cambridge Research Oncology, leaders in immuno-oncology research, are seeking a motivated and innovative Postdoctoral Research Scientist to develop the use of an advanced 3-dimensional tissue culture platform, based on primary human tissue samples, which maintains the tissue microenvironment in its native context. This is a 3-year postdoctoral position.
This is an exciting opportunity to work within our Cambridge Research Oncology Group based at the MedimmuneCambridge facility. With an exciting research pipeline, this is a great time to develop your career with us.
MedImmune has a dynamic environment that fosters collaboration and innovation. We attract top minds, and we nurture and build top talent.
In the first instance, validation of the technology and additional analytical capabilities will be within the Oncology setting, using novel compounds to better understand their effect on and within the tumour microenvironment. The project will rely on the integration of multiple cutting-edge in vitro endpoints (multiplex imaging, functional assays, transcriptomics etc.) to assess the pharmacodynamics of novel biologic drug candidates and predict their likely impact in the clinic. Importantly, as an emerging technology, the project will necessarily involve the design of innovative methods to evaluate tumour remodeling/transformation in the 3D context. Application of the platform across the therapy areas to support the growth of MedImmune’s diverse pipeline is a key aim of this project.
The candidate is expected to independently design, coordinate, conduct, and execute experimental studies and will have the opportunity to present all project relevant data at internal and cross-project team meetings and select external scientific meetings. The candidate will work with Research Oncology team members, contributors from other therapy and functional areas, and internal/external collaborators on a regular basis. This position offers an exciting opportunity to investigate novel technologies and fundamental biology in a biopharma environment. Output from this post-doctoral project will directly inform MedImmune’s drug development efforts and produce data and biological insights which are eminently publishable in high-impact journals. Opportunities to develop knowledge in related areas of drug development (e.g. bioprocessing and protein engineering) will be encouraged. The candidate will be expected to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant external scientific findings and use these insights to further our in-house capabilities.
Ph.D. in a Life Science or associated area.
In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience of relevant in vitro and ex vivo models within Oncology research
Experience with multiplex immunofluorescence and image analysis.
Significant hands-on experience with various cell biology, biochemical, immunology and/or metabolism characterization methods (e.g. flow cytometry, ELISA, western blotting, transcriptomics / NGS, bioassay development, database interrogation).
Ability to independently plan, design and implement experimentsPublication record
Some understanding of the major disease challenges in key therapeutic areas important to MedImmune.
Prior experience using 3D tissue culture systems (such as organoid or tissue slice cultures) would be advantageous.
