Position: Scientist - Laboratory Animal Sciences (2 year Fixed Term Contact)

In the Laboratory Animal Sciences (LAS) Department, we support and drive all in vivo studies at the Alderley Park site in addition to working collaboratively with colleagues in Cambridge, Sweden and US LAS facilities. We conduct studies to evaluate efficacy and pharmacokinetics. We support and collaborate with scientists generating predictive models for in depth human disease and development of new GEMMs models.

The role requires someone with a good understanding of the range of procedures relating to Laboratory Animal Sciences as well as competence in trouble shooting.

Responsibilities:

In addition to the above;

  • Contribute to the plans and designs of in-vivo studies and provides general technical and scientific advice on specific projects and studies.

  • Manage your own work to ensure agreed targets are met in a timely manner to agreed quality standards, always communicating progress.

  • Perform in vivo experiments and interpret results based on a standard methodology.

  • Modify or improve processes and systems, depending on the purpose of experiments.

  • Liaise with colleagues from other disciplines to discuss project-related matters, share experiences and report progress.

  • Develop your own level of competency by reading articles, collaborating with peer scientists or through contacts by other internal groups, maintain CPD.

  • Search for information which may improve research methodology and procedures.

  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with appropriate Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), quality and compliance standards, e.g. Good Laboratory Standards (GLS).

  • Work flexibly across different areas, and participate in provision of weekend and out of hours support. Weekends will be 1 in 3 for 4 hours each day.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience Required:

Essential:

  • Graduate or experienced non-graduate.

  • Experienced with in vivo techniques.

  • Current/past HO personal licensee.

  • Problem-solving skills related to in-vivo research and data analysis.

  • Understanding of compliance systems.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experienced in working within a team.

Desirable:

  • In vivo skills with oncology models.

  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
