We are now looking to hire an Experimental Medicine Leader to lead the Experimental Medicine work in Gothenburg, Sweden.

You will work in an exciting environment, in the early research organisation (RIA IMED), leading our Experimental Medicine work within RIA Translational Science. You will provide experimental medicine leadership and plans for all therapeutic molecule projects in the RIA early development portfolio, working closely with Translational Science, Early Clinical development and Precision Medicine & Genomics.
This is a business-critical and influential role with high level accountabilities. You will be involved across the entire RIA portfolio, gaining a unique experience of leading the translation of basic science to precision medicine that will impact the clinic. Our aim is to move treatment of Respiratory disease beyond symptom control to disease modification and cure, combined with the identification of the patient group most likely to benefit - we have many exciting assets in the pipeline so this is a very exciting time in Respiratory drug development at AZ.
As Experimental Medicine Leader you will deliver Experimental Medicine strategies to the project team, and will have accountability for the clinical risk/benefit, scientific and value content and delivery of the Experimental Medicine components of the project to time & quality, whilst ensuring projects adhere to Good Clinical Practice and any regulatory requirements. You will have responsibility and accountability for delivering innovative clinical experimental medicine studies, including recall by genotype studies, which establish a platform of evidence linking target to human disease and identification and threshold selection of biomarkers for both target engagement and precision medicine. Your work will build critical knowledge with new insights into disease biology and begin to close the ‘bedside to bench’ loop.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Leader for the design and interpretation of Experimental Medicine studies ensuring the ethical and scientific integrity of the plans, studies and the product in compliance with GCP
Designs or manages the implementation of the Experimental Medicine strategy within Translational Science RIA IMED
Deliver Experimental Medicine evidence forfunctional relevance of targets in human disease, utility and threshold of target engagement biomarkers and precision medicine biomarkers to identify relevant patient subgroups
Ensure that clinical input into the Translational Science strategies and plans receive adequate peer consultation to assure high scientific quality
Maintains a high degree of understanding and awareness on new and emerging experimental medicine development
Works as member of Translational Science Leadership Team to deliver departmental vision, strategy and goals
Works with TMU driving back translation into RIA IMED, ensuring necessary and appropriate biomarker analysis in ECD led clinical studies
Ensures internal and external peer review of Exp Med study design
As available, provide Experimental Medicine assessment in-licensing opportunities
As available, line management responsibility for experimental medicine scientists, delivering the performance management and guiding the professional development of direct reports
Graduate of a recognized school of medicine with an M.D. degree or equivalent
5 years clinical research expertise in relevant therapy area, in designing, monitoring and implementing clinical trials and interpreting trial results
Specialty training or board eligibility
Significant experimental research expertise and experience, including experience in designing, monitoring, executing and interpreting clinical studies
Demonstrated understanding of biomarkers, biostatistics and precision medicine
Experience in driving project execution in a matrix environment with demonstrated influencing, communication and stakeholder management skills
Significant publication record including demonstrated contributions to respiratory science
Drug Discovery and Development Experience with a thorough understanding of pharmaceutical safety, reporting and surveillance processes
Proven teamwork and collaboration skills
Technical (medical and scientific) experience evaluating targets/agents for in -licensing or internal development
Ability to travel nationally and internationally
Organize and deliver Advisory Boards with international KOLs
A clear demonstration of behaviors of truth seeking rather than success seeking, agile responsiveness to scientific data and embracing of peer review
PhD in scientific discipline
Extensive general medical knowledge
Experience in several organizations and geographic locations
