As a GMI Planning Manager,you’ll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients’ lives.

The GMI Planning Manager is part of Global Commercial Operations, deployed and co-located with the Global Medical Information team. The GMI Planning Manager is responsible for strategic program management of key activities and tasks that drive the planning and execution of medical activities both within the GMI function as well as other functions that integrate with GMI, and their customers.

The GMI Planning Manager will use knowledge of either US or global best practices, resources, checklists, frameworks and systems, enterprise-wide processes, and business development alignment, and project management skills to align all functions (i.e. compliance, medical,) to achieve Brand Team and enterprise goals, mitigate workstream and projects delays, promote asset/component re-use, and reduce known risks associated with key medical activities such as preparing for brand launches and congresses.

The GMI Planning Manager may also develop and oversee brand launch project plan creation and execution in support of the medical team launch timelines. Alliances (previously called co-promotions, partnerships, co-commercializations) may occur throughout the enterprise and may require the GMI Planning Manager to work across therapeutic areas.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Responsible for overall operational customer experience within GMI therapy area, manages the GMI asset prioritization process, and resolves or escalates issues

  • Communicates and ensures the medical team is informed of upcoming change events coming out of GCE impacting the GMI processes. Aids in the development of operational communication plans for key initiatives.

  • Serves as the primary onsite GMI liaison to both commercial Global and US brand teams (i.e. Portfolio Operations Managers, Delivery Managers, Nominated Signatory, Legal, Medical Affairs, Medical Information, and key local markets).

  • Works across other GMI therapeutic areas to share, understand, and create best practices that support the overall health and efficiency of the teams

  • Provides strategic project management support as needed for business-critical programs and activities as determined by the GMI AZ Lead. Validates, analyzes, and interprets operational dashboard metrics to GMI Leader and provides specific insight on the meaning of key process and utilization metrics and defines approaches to improve outcomes,

  • Partners proactively with S&O leads on tracking alignment of business activities to the iMAP, including budget, and KPIs for external resources

Planning & Prioritization

  • Supports planning and prioritization of reactive materials for the portfolio, ensuring decisions and actions are appropriately pulled through which includes assisting with the management of the review and approval process of content in Veeva Vault MedComms

  • Develop reports from inquiry report requests, to quarterly metrics reports for distribution to the medical team by utilizing various medical reporting tools.

  • Manage therapy areas standing reports and requests for ad hoc reports

  • Assist with coordination of congress activity including booth staffing schedules, trackers for content, GMI/US MI collaborative efforts

  • Coordination of key onboarding activities and training for external resources

  • Schedules and manages updates of Standard Responses, Q&As, Slide Decks and other reactive medical materials that are associated with congresses, publications or ad hoc data releases

  • Coordinate, manage and facilitate monthly GMI update meetings and therapy area meetings as required

Launch Planning

  • Performs quick implementation of launch task management in response to speed and compliance for GMA/OBU

  • Provides operations leadership for medical launch planning. Responsible for assisting with development of operations strategy, identifying and engaging cross-functional expertise, and execution of operations project plan from project charter to hand-off to BAU. Also, engages with Sr Leaders for KPI support, presentations, and reporting as needed.

  • Partners with all functions to achieve overall business objectives for launch to meet the Medical teams’ business needs

  • Facilitates launch plan status and governance over effective allocation of resources to achieve strategic goals.

  • Builds strong cross-functional teams,

  • Follows defined processes & procedures related to new product development to ensure compliance and meet business deliverables.

  • Participates in new business development activities including due diligence and business case development.

  • Identifies gaps in existing operational processes and drives improvement activities to close them.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Experience in brand planning, marketing, pharmaceutical sales, information services and/or healthcare related fields; experience as a member of a brand team a plus.

  • Demonstrated success in medical or commercial Operations, AZ US Commercial Business Brand/Portfolio environment or similar function that involves a complex team environment, works across multiple teams, reporting lines and matrix structures with key partners (e.g., US or Global brand team, Nominated Signatory, PRA, Medical Information, Legal, Compliance, etc.)

  • High capabilities in working collaboratively, strategic thinking, problem solving using communication style(s) that are adaptable to the situation and internal stakeholder(s)

  • Strong oral and written communication skills and customer focus, including organizational awareness and proven stakeholder management

  • Proven leadership capabilities with successful record of motivating and driving performance of individuals and groups

  • Demonstrated ability to build credibility and relationships with internal and external stakeholders and facilitate leadership discussions

  • Proficiency in technology platforms and the ability to manipulate reports in excel and conduct analytics to support planning and decision-making

Preferred Background

  • Advanced Degree in a relevant field (e.g., marketing, e-business, strategy, healthcare, etc.)

  • Asset development experience, agency experience and/or brand team experience

  • Strong understanding of the US/Global Healthcare environment, pharmaceutical/ healthcare industry, market dynamics and major AZ business drivers

  • Thorough understanding of AZ commercial and/or medical model with knowledge of brand team operations, and brand planning processes

  • Strong change leadership experience including change management programming and stakeholder management skills

  • Demonstrated ability to build credibility and relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Previous people management and mentoring experience

  • Strong negotiation and facilitation skills

  • Credentialed strategic project management experience

  • Prior experience and proficiency with Veeva Vault PromoMats or MedComms tools

  • Depth of understanding in scientific and/or commercial pharmaceutical marketplace for respective therapeutic area(s) a plus
