AstraZeneca’s ambition in Oncology is to eliminate cancer as a cause of death through scientific discovery and collaborations, with a broad portfolio of next-generation medicines focused on breast, ovarian, lung and haematological cancer. As well as an emerging pipeline in other tumour types being targeted through four key platforms – immune-oncology, the genetic drivers of cancer and resistance, DNA damage repair, and antibody drug conjugates; underpinned by personalised healthcare and biomarker technologies.

The Global MSL Excellence Director for Oncology is accountable for ensuring the strategic alignment of MSL activities globally and the development, delivery and measurement of prioritised MSL Excellence initiatives to strengthen MSL capabilities across AZ regions and affiliate organisations for the Oncology Business Unit. The incumbent will work in collaboration with the OBU Medical Capabilities team, Global Medical Affairs Leaders and Field Medical Leaders to provide strategic direction, implement programmes that build Oncology-specific MSL and MSL Leader capabilities, and shape the future field medical role in Oncology.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

•Lead the Field Medical Team (FMLT) globally to ensure strategic alignment of field medical affairs activities for Oncology and oversee the strategy for MSLs, understand the broader picture in the therapy area and be able to evaluate the company strategy and priorities in different disease areas

•Monitor and report MSL activities globally and ensure alignment with agreed to global Oncology key performance indicators (KPIs) and key quality indicators (KQIs)

•Align with Oncology Medical Capabilities team (Medical Training, Publications, GMI, MEOR, Evidence Generation) to provide strategic alignment of field medical affairs activities

•Ensure Oncology MSL on-boarding and development strategies are in place in regions/countries to build skills and drive knowledge development for MSL leaders, in line with global expectations

•Active contributor and Member of the Oncology Global Medical Affairs Team(s)

•Provide insights to the Global Medical Affairs Leader(s) for Oncology regarding the diverse needs of the market

•Act as the MSL subject matter expert to all AZ global initiatives where Oncology MSLs are implicated.Provide insight, guidance, influence and expertise that ensures global vision for MSL role is well understood

•Conduct ad-hoc analyses on projects and initiatives to proactively escalate issues, propose solutions and modify strategies

•Support the effective and efficient implementation of Global MSL Excellence initiatives that result in valued outcomes and maximum in-country impact

Minimum Requirements –Education and Experience

•Advanced degree in scientific discipline (e.g., PhD, PharmD, MD), preferably with Oncology focus

•Experience (>5 years) in an MSL organisation, preferably in Oncology

•3 or more years leadership experience in medical affairs, preferably an MSL organisation

•Experience in developing MSL strategic plans for external scientific engagement

•Experience in the following are also considered assets:implementation of a compliance and auditing programme specific to MSL; MSL performance management and KPIs; design of programmes that focus on managing, leading and coaching high performing individuals and teams
