Role Description

The Director of Strategic Planning & Brand Optimization will be responsible for driving strategies and plans to optimize the US oncology portfolio of brands, and ensure successful customer enablement across the EGFR Franchise, IO Franchise, Hematology Franchise, Women’s Cancer Franchise & Diagnostics.

This position will report into the Head of the Innovation & Integration team, and will work in close partnership with product-specific Brand Managers/Directors. The role will collaborate across the entire portfolio ensuring that US oncology brand strategies are differentiated, reach targeted audiences, and build a total customer experience.This role will also shape and influence innovative customer enablement approaches, Congress & Conventions that deliver on the brand strategy and drive greater franchise value.

This position is based at our Gaithersburg, MD campus, headquarters for our US Oncology and other Specialty Care businesses as well as the US Commercial Center for multiple Therapeutic Areas of our Global Product and Portfolio Strategy businesses.

Key accountabilities

Strategic Planning

·Identify opportunities for brand innovation/growth, promote strategies that provide a competitive advantage, and influence plans to implement these opportunities in partnership with franchise teams

·Identify opportunities for improvement across all aspects of US Oncology commercial, including processes, reporting, measurement, etc., to drive business outcomes

·Lead franchise and cross-functional teams to prioritize opportunities and build business cases

·Lead franchise and cross-functional work streams to drive development of new innovative approaches

·Act as a consultant and thought partner to US oncology and teams through regular and ad hoc engagement and partnership

·Manage and orchestrate the annual Brand Strategy Planning (BSP) process for US Oncology in partnership with Oncology franchise leaders

·Maintain US Oncology Brand Strategy Planning (BSP) Guidance & Framework and identify opportunities for continuous improvement

·Maintain a rolling 12-month view of relevant US Oncology business activities, clinical milestones, external events (including congresses, conferences), and market events

·Provide leadership and direction – establishes processes, benchmarks, tracks systems, timelines and procedures – for implementing and adopting new business performance reporting and evaluation practices into the organization

Brand Optimization, Customer Enablement & Congress / Conventions:

1.Manage & Maintain US Oncology business calendar with all key market & financial events both internally & Externally

2.Work in partnership with Oncology franchise leaders to develop brand strategies, and influence customer engagement tactics

3.Analyze trends and market disruptions to identify new market spaces to engage customers that could transform patient outcomes and business results

4.Drive efficiency and innovation in operational execution of US Oncology customer engagement including congresses and other external events

5.Lead evolution the US Oncology brand and customer experience

6.Drive delivery of customer enablement activities, including the following:

a.Development, improvement and harmonization of processes for various customer engagement channels and events (e.g. digital, congresses)

b.Selection and management of agencies / vendors (as appropriate)

c.Management of resourcing (e.g. budget / funding, demand, prioritization, and quality)


·Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in relevant field

·7+ years experience in pharmaceutical and/or healthcare industry with experience in one or more of the following: digital marketing, consumer marketing, brand/product marketing, strategic planning, business planning

·Digital or consumer marketing experience preferred

·Oncology or specialty care experience highly preferred


·Self-motivated and independent

·Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

·Proven track record of managing cross-functional, matrixed teams

·Strong organization skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects

·Proven experience in execution – ability to bring strategy and analysis to a tactical level and get projects started and drive to completion

·Demonstrated ability to lead without authority

·Comfort operating in a highly regulated environment and industry

·High ethical standards and personal integrity
