AstraZeneca’s vision in Oncology is to help patients by redefining the cancer-treatment paradigm, with the aim of bringing six new cancer medicines to patients between 2013 and 2020. A broad pipeline of next-generation medicines is focused principally on four disease areas - breast, ovarian, lung and hematological cancers. As well as other tumor types, these are being targeted through four key platforms - immunotherapy, the genetic drivers of cancer and resistance, DNA damage repair, and antibody drug conjugates, underpinned by personalized healthcare and biomarker technologies.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The Women’s Cancer Regional Liaison Director is responsible for the execution of Medical Affairs strategy in support of the organization’s business strategy and objectives. As the West Women’s Cancer Regional Liaison Director, you are also accountable for leading and managing Field Medical Affairs resources in collaboration with Medical Affairs Leadership.
The Women’s Cancer Regional Liaison Director will develop and lead field-based Oncology Medical Science Liaison (MSL) teams in support of therapeutic area and brand medical plans. The Women’s Cancer Regional Liaison Director will ensure MSL teams deliver customer outcomes through execution of Medical Affairs deliverables for assigned brands(s) and contribute as a member of Medical Affairs workstream(s) representing field and customer perspective.
Additional accountabilities will include providing guidance on collection of medical insight and communicate actionable items to internal stakeholders as appropriate; lead and manage change initiatives as needed in the field to enable positive business outcomes; serve as a role model fostering personal accountability and ownership of individual and team success; manage performance of direct reports – including recruiting, hiring and retention.
The Women’s Cancer Regional Liaison Director will also facilitate scientific and skill training as well as professional development for direct reports as while also providing timely feedback and coaching to MSLs to improve performance and business impact.
As the Women’s Cancer Regional Liaison Director, you will also foster a culture of innovation and collaboration; manage and oversee team financial resources and oversee direct report compliance with all guidelines and policies. This position will work closely with the East Coast Women’s Cancer Regional Liaison Director to deliver the goals and objectives for the Women’s Cancer Team and the other Oncology Field Medical Directors as part of the Field Medical Leadership Team.
oDoctorate in Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Medicine, or equivalent experience
oMinimum of 3-5 years’ experience in pharmaceutical industry preferably in Medical Affairs or Clinical Development
o2+ years’ field team management experience
o2+ years’ experience in Women’s Cancer (academia, pharmaceutical, or other)
oExperience in product launch development and execution
oExperience with product strategy development and execution
oDemonstrated expertise in drug information communication
oThorough knowledge of FDA requirements
oBasic knowledge/understanding of health economic principles and clinical trials
oExcellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
oAbility to travel
o3-4 years of pharmaceutical Medical Science Liaison experience
