Global Portfolio and Product Strategy (GPPS) is the strategic unit that shapes AstraZeneca’s product and portfolio strategy. We integrate corporate, product and therapy area strategies in order to provide clear strategic direction that bridges our science and commercial teams, while maximising the value of our portfolio and brands.

This role sits within the Respiratory Therapy Area Group whose remit is to develop long-term strategies across all therapy area assets to maximise growth.

  • Leading product strategies from science units (i.e. Development) through to commercialisation and lifecycle management.

  • Shape portfolio and product strategies, providing strategic direction and commercial management.

  • Supplement portfolio and capabilities through business development opportunities.

As the VP Core Respiratory you’ll play a pivotal role in setting all strategy and tactics relating to major therapeutic areas on a global basis and you will be accountable for sales and profitability, for resource allocation as well as for strategy setting regarding the following products (a portfolio worth of $4.7bil, +8% during Q4)

  • Symbicort both in the current indications and global launch of Anti-inflammatory Reliever in asthma in 2019. Additionally the focus will be on market shaping activities in Emerging Markets to creat the inhaled maintenance market, particularly China where we are market leaders.

  • Pulmicort, with special focus on the Emerging Markets

  • The rest of the portfolio: Daxas/Daliresp, Eklira/Duaklir, Bricanyl, Oxis

  • PT027 – Anti-Inflamatory Reliever moving from PhIIb into PhIII

  • Connected Devices – with the focus on Tubo+/pMDI+

Main Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deploy global strategies to achieve the Symbicort and Pulmicort business’s goals, maintain/improve sales, profit, and market share, both with current and future indications.

  • Develop forecast on sales, profit, market share and investment strategy based on agreed budgets. Lead the annual LRP process, and develop the Quarterly Business Review performance review and coordinate the external communication with Finance and IR.

  • Develop and lead Therapy Area Strategy for Core Repiratory Portfolio.

  • Lead the Global Brand Teams to include a thorough and well-coordinated input into Symbicort strategy and ensure close integration and flawless execution of marketing strategies and tactics in the markets with the definition and the implementation of key core deliverables. Continue to develop innovative and creative commercial strategies and capabilities to ensure success.

  • Drive the market shaping efforts in China and the International Region to ensure that the inhaled maintenance market is established: diagnosis, rate of maintenance, DOTs improvement to achieve 2027 LRP goals

  • Define and implement the pre-lauch and launch activities for Symbicort Anti-inflammatory reliever

  • Work closely with GBT and GPT and the key countries

  • Appropiately manage governance interactions – COMMID, LSPC, EULT and International LT

  • Establish the foundation of AsthmaZero program across the different functions – GMA, CA, GPEP

  • Work with the International Region to include a thorough and well-coordinated input into Pulmicort strategy and ensure close integration and flawless execution of marketing strategies and tactics in the markets with the definition and the implementation of key core deliverables.

  • Maximize the profitability of the rest of the brands of the CoreRespiratory area – Daxas/Omnaris, Eklira/Duaklir, and the rest of the inhaled brands, working closely with BD, Search & Evaluation and Finance, including the management of the partners

  • Drive the effective implementation of connected device in collaboration with the Integrated Patient Solution teams, maximizing the opportunityties of Turbu+/pMDI+ across the globe

  • Build a best in class global marketing organization to become a respected leader in pharmaceutical industry while cultivating an inclusive high-performance environment that values and leverages diversity.

  • Support strategic portfolio development activities for the business as a core member of the Global Product Team. Work with Global Insights and Analytics, Global Regulatory/Legal, Global Medical Affairs and Global Business Development to support commercial assessments, new product development, forecasting, product in-licensing and lifecycle management.

  • Prepare SET quarterly performance for analyst community

  • Lead global advisory group and relationships alongside medical affairs

Experience & Expertise required:

Essential:

  • Degree level education

  • Proven success in a global leadership role

  • Strong Respiratory knowledge in Asthma/COPD

  • Proven strong influencing skills and stakeholder management

  • Experienced and comfortable working in a matrix environment

  • Understanding of and adaptable to working variances of different countries and different cultures

  • Successful experience of remote team management

  • Strong interpersonal and team leadership skills, demonstrating flexibility and a proven ability to deal with complexity under time pressure.

  • Experience and effectiveness in the presentation of written and verbal business cases to the most senior Management.

  • Numerate and having financial literacy

  • Gravitas and experience to create a positive relationship with third parties as an AZ Ambassador at Board and Executive Committee level.

  • Tenacity and resourcefulness. Demonstrates structured and measured leadership, interactions and decision making during periods of high intensity in external or internal deliberations.

  • A flexible, team orientated attitude, willing to contribute own skills to deliver AZ priority projects

Desirable:

  • Second degree, e.g. MBA. PhD
