This role is the primary point of contact for the Science and Enabling Units IT Capability Leaders for the Enabling Functions. This person will act as the single contact into the Soluton Delivery Team, and will be accountable for maintaining alignment with the Capability Leaders and their respective business aligned roadmaps.
The Programme Management Leader manages a team of Project managers who are accountable for one or more major global deployments or projects with a value in excess of $20M, possibly reporting to an ITLT member or Senior Business lead. The role shapes vision, and ensures that business strategies are effectively being addressed, ensuring solutions solve key business needs and can be completed within the approved programme budget and schedule commitments whilst meeting required quality and compliance standards. Focus areas include stakeholder management (varies by organization), risk management and delivery of business benefit. This role is also required to follow established project management standards and leads / drives development of the project / programme management capability.
This role will be the point person for a group of capability leaders and how they work across the Solution Delivery team matrix. They will work closely together to develop a 12 – 18 month forward looking roadmap, with the Programme Management leader accountable for gaining alignment across the Solution Delivery team leadership group and providing resoiurce plans consistent with the capability roadmap.
These individuals lead groups of project managers who are delivering against medium to large projects that are either part of a larger program or stand alone projects.
They are accountable for maintaining a portfolio roadmap aligned with a group of capability leaders.
This position is a key position in the ongoing portfolio governance process, providing a link for the capability leaders across the solution delivery center.
These individuals are the types of leaders who can quickly identify and escalate issues, risks or gaps and make sure these are closed to ensure successful delivery to the Science and Enabling Units business.
These leaders will drive the agile methodology adoption across the SEUIT organization.
They are leaders who act independently, are able to collaborate closely with other strong leaders and drive change across a matrixed organization.
These individuals will typically have experience beyond the project management capability, which allows for a deeper understanding of the varied capabilities providing resources to our programs.
Establish programme vision and realization approach ensuring technical solutions fit with AZ Architecture roadmaps and blueprints.
Oversee and approve plans for programmes, including activities, resources, costs, roles, responsibilities and quality as defined in the IT Project Management Methodology (ADF).
Manage and coordinate programme budgets, forecasts, tasks, schedules, and change management, to support effective programme decisions.
Manage and coordinate interdependencies between programme workstreams (intra-program and across portfolio).
Oversee the development of strategic risk analysis and control plans acting as escalation point for all programme-level risks and issues.
Manage relationships with senior business stakeholders to ensure the effective capturing of business requirements and commitment to project/program objectives. Responsible for steering / stakeholder meetings, communication of status, issues, risks.
Build a cohesive project /programme team and provide the leadership necessary to maximize the team’s success.
Oversee changes to programme scope, ensuring that all impacts and changes are approved and appropriately communicated to senior stakeholders and review boards.
Ensure service transition plans including controlled hand-over into support and maintenance are performed.
Ensure the programme adheres to all standards including ADF, quality, and compliance, as well as processes, defined technical capabilities, and best practices.
Lead and drive development of a world-class centre of excellence for project management capabilities and ensure that best practice is adopted and reinforced.
Works collaboratively with:
AZ Senior/executive stakeholders to ensure understanding and commitment to programme objectives, and development and refinement of deliverables
Key business stakeholders to ensure the effective capturing of business requirements and commitment to project/programme objectives
Supplier Management function to manage delivery of medium sized external supplier contracts
Internal and External Suppliers to ensure delivery of agreed products and services while ensuring adherence to AZ project delivery standards
Education, Qualifications and Experience
Technical or Business Degree or relevant track record of equivalent experience.
Proven skills and experience managing and controlling large project and programme budgets
Proven track record of defining business strategies and influencing key business stakeholders
Strong track record managing and leading global project teams
Experience shaping innovative solutions that have a major impact within the business area and organisation.
Proven relevant experience as an SPM or equivalent role
History of leveraging agile Project management techniques against large programs
Project / Programme Management certifications
Experience working in a global organization where stakeholders and project team members are geographically dispersed.
