A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join our Group Financial Reporting (GFR) team. In this role, you will lead a team of 7, delivering Group Consolidation and Treasury accounting for the business, as well as having significant visibility within AstraZeneca, through drafting and presenting reports to the Senior Executive Team (SET), Board and Audit Committee. The role will also Chair the Corporate Structure Committee (CST).

Principal Responsibilities:


You will lead the team of 4 direct reports with preparation, direction, coaching, review and sign off, line management. You will also be responsible for the end to end consolidation process from data submission to lock. This includes responsibility for overall GCS data quality (stat & mgmt. reporting).

You will also be responsible for the design and maintenance of consolidation logics and mechanics which enable delivery of external reporting as well as producing accurate recording and presentation of accounting issues, SOX control compliance and audit readiness. Lots of stakeholder management will be involved.

Treasury reporting and control:

In addition to the above, you will lead this team of 3 direct and indirect reports with direction, coaching, line management. This will include being the Business Partner with Treasury Front Office, Treasury Operations and the Group Treasurer. You will take responsibility for the team delivering monthly management reporting and forecasting, statutory accounts, SOX compliance, group reporting and treasury disclosures.

External reporting:

You will be required to project manage the preparation and completion of the Group’s Quarterly and Annual Financial Statements under IFRS, including reviewing and sign off disclosures.

Other areas of involvement will include:


Take a key role in managing the relationship with PwC throughout the year to ensure a successful audit.

Finance Transformation:

Subject matter expert for consolidation process and group reporting, providing significant impact into the new Group Consolidation system project.

Technical projects:

Lead AZ response to all new accounting standards. Maintain external networks with peer Pharma companies to align the industry-wide approach to new or evolving accounting standards/interpretations.

Accounting issues:

Provide accounting and reporting advice to Finance Senior Management and the wider finance organisation. Ensure compliance with Group accounting policy and IFRS. Lead/advise on accounting treatment for complex/unusual items. Advise/participate in deal accounting treatment. Ensure practical reporting implications of new deals and accounting issues are addressed for accurate reporting in Group systems.


Chair CST Oversee preparation of CFO report and prepare audit committee papers

Key Relationships:

In order to perform this role, you will need to build key relationships across the business with discussions of technical accounting matters with senior finance team members at all levels of the business. External stakeholders – KPMG, Phama forum, advisory firms Work with the wider GFR and Controllership leadership team and leaders of other major AZ programs.

What we are looking for:

You will need to already have group consolidation experience, across a truly global organisation, with the ability to pull numbers from across a complex business structure. The successful candidate must be able to cope with lots of complexity, as exists in our business, as well as having had exposure to treasury, pensions insurance, tax and investor relations.

It is also important to have technical expertise across reporting standards, methodologies and global processes, including: IFRS, Management Reporting and Forecasting, Statutory Accounts and SOX compliance, Group Reporting and Treasury disclosures and quarterly and annual external reporting requirements, including press releases and annual report.

Previous team management experience is another requirement as you will manage a team of 7 overall, managed through two direct reports.

Understanding of the Finance Transformation landscape and ideally experience of a similar migration towards a shared services model, along with system changes and process standardisation will be helpful.Extensive experience of balancing stakeholder requirements, the ability to use a range of influencing techniques and strategies is important

Hyperion knowledge is essential. SAP knowledge would be beneficial.
