At AstraZeneca when we pride ourselves on our ethical approach to business both in the way that we work internally and the way we interact with the third parties that support our business. Delivering life-changing medicines is about doing the right thing – ensuring that our standards are upheld and risks are identified and managed effectively across our supply chains.
Every year, AstraZeneca spends more than $10bn on goods and services, representing 55% of the total cost base. The increasing cost of developing and bringing a drug to the market along with pressures on healthcare costs around the world and the rise of generic medicines mean the drive to get the best value from every AstraZeneca dollar has never been stronger.
The challenge is to deliver outstanding value, not only by actively managing spend to ensure focus on the resources and the discovery of innovative new medicines, but to help enable the business by adding broader business insight and best practice value through innovative procurement practices. The Procurement strategic aim is best summarised as “Delivering value to AstraZeneca, by being the partner of choice to the business and our suppliers through external insight and world class innovative sourcing solutions.”
Over the last 3 years AstraZeneca procurement has undergone significant transformation in enabling the business and delivering strong value in support of AstraZeneca’s bold vision and corporate strategy. In addition to achieving above benchmarks for savings delivery the procurement function has
