We are currently recruiting for a Business Analysis Lead, this role can be based in either of our main hub locations in Cambridge, Gothenburg or Gaithersburg.

The role is the leader of a large group of BA’s working across the Science and Enabling Units IT organization. This individual will be accountable for defining and implementing Best IT standards across the organization, as well as leading the staff in delivery against those standards.

The Principal Business Analyst partners with Senior IT and Business Stakeholders to develop high quality, high value business cases that underpin IT strategy; oversee complex business process design; and ensure that proposed programmes of work include analysis and design within their governance structures so that established AstraZeneca quality and compliance standards and strategic business solution needs are met.

The Principal Business Analyst will drive the evolution of the process and requirements management methodology practices for Science and Enabling Units IT, ensuring that the methodology, quality and compliance standards are adhered to; positioning the capability provided by Business Analysts to have significant influence over the success of IT delivery and Business Change.

The Principal Business Analyst will act as a leader working with and mentoring other Business Analysts to develop their skills and sustain cross functional communities of practice to enable peer to peer sharing and increased maturity. Through these communities, the Principal Business Analyst will promote the skills, benefits and strategic direction of the Business Analyst job family across the company.

Typical Accountabilities

  • Accountable for leading the Business Analysis team, driving high quality deliverables and managing ways of working across the teams, standard processes and key performance indicators.

  • Working collaboratively across the solution delivery organization against roadmaps aligned to the capability teams

  • Develops and implements the people strategy for the entire Business Analyst function, aligned with the organisation’s

  • vision and its current and long-term business objectives at a global level

  • This individual will lead a large group of business analysts supporting a diverse set of capability leaders across the entire Science and Enabling Units organization

  • This position will set standards and processes aligned with the AZ IT practices that are used across the SEUIT team.

  • This leader will be expected to drive change across a large group of Business Analysts with varied experiences and backgrounds, moving the team to a more cohesive and structured approach

  • This individual will be responsible for supporting the planning and roadmapping processes across the SEUIT capability teams

  • The position will ensure that projects have the appropriate BA staffing levels and skill levels to successfuilly deliver against the business objectives

The role is expected to be an Expert in the following accountabilities as well as leading a large group of Business Analysts against them:

  • Business Needs Identification - Operates at an enterprise level in assessing and defining business need and areas for improvement. Proactively seeks out opportunities to enhance and improve in line with strategic goals. Actively monitors and identifies capability gaps and proposes potential solutions through research internally and externally.

  • Business Analysis Planning - Selects the appropriate analysis approach to a piece of work depending on its complexity, level of risk, known assumptions, constraints and dependencies. Proficient in scoping and recommending appropriate approaches. Capable of planning and managing their own and other team member’s activities to meet deliverables and deadlines. Accountable for performance and quality of analytical work delivered, both their own and the work of others.

  • Stakeholder Analysis & Change - Effectively identifies stakeholders from all areas of the business, and actively builds and maintains relationships according to individual stakeholder needs and levels of influence. Contributes to communication plans and change management for project and stakeholders.

  • Requirements Analysis and Design Definition - Responsible and accountable for requirements management plans including elicitation, approvals, processes, RAID and scope impacts. Highly responsive to changing business priorities with ability to plan ahead, accounting for potential changes and corrective actions. Advanced requirements elicitation and management skill-set; including traceability, testing and validation. Leads the work with the business to identify functional and technical requirements, translating the requirements into design specifications reflecting Functional Design, User Interface Design and Business Process Design. Closely partnering with the Architecture team, ensuring the technical solution will deliver the agreed business benefits.

  • Business Case and Benefits Management - Shapes and defines the business case, producing detailed business justification for investment including ROI and benefits realization.

  • Solution Evaluation - Highly proficient in analyzing and assessing solution proposals and able to articulate supporting reasoning i.e. assessing business readiness, maximizing value vs. spend.

  • Senior Business Stakeholders to ensure that solutions fulfil their future strategic needs and challenges

  • Business Relationship Managers to develop and maintain the business relationship and facilitate transformational business process change

  • Business customers to identify business requirements and effectively communicate impact, cost and benefits of new and changed demands

  • Global Process Owners to identify and devise solutions that optimize business process performance, capability and competitiveness across multiple functions

  • IT Architecture, Delivery and Support to ensure clear understanding of requirements and effective testing so that the solutions delivered to the business are efficient and effective, meeting the customer experience expectations.

  • Test Lead to end to end effectiveness of overall solution and business readiness.

Work collaboratively with or take responsibility for:

  • Change Management/Communication Lead to ensure the Change Management and Communications plans and delivery support the Stakeholder Analysis.

Education, Qualifications, and Experience

  • Proven experience of successfully deploying a variety of business analysis tools/techniques to design and deliver transformational business change

  • Proven experience of working with complex integrated systems, using creative and strategic thinking to design and deliver new processes and solutions

  • Experience of virtual collaboration to lead, shape and develop innovative solutions and business benefits

  • Strong engagement, communication and stakeholder management skills, including excellent presentation and influencing skills demonstrated at the most senior levels

  • Extensive experience of working in a global organisation with complex/geographical context

  • Experience of working in a regulated environment

  • Extensive experience of managing, mentoring, coaching or developing others

  • Experience of creating extended networks, and driving capability uplifts in line with strategic goals

  • Experience of working with and managing third party suppliers/vendors

  • Degree in relevant discipline or formal certification in business analysis practice

  • Lean SIGMA training
