We’re looking for a Director of Europe Oncology Communication and Patient Advocacy to join us in Zug (Switzerland) and contribute to our vision of one day eliminating cancer as a cause of death.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

A key member of the Global Oncology Corporate Affairs team, Director of Europe Oncology Communication and Patient Advocacy will report directly to the VP, Oncology Head of Oncology Europe & International and act as a daily business partner to the Oncology Europe Leadership Team. You will support the development of the newly formed AZ Oncology Business Unit (“OBU” – launched in July 2017) and will help drive employee engagement and create a culture focused on AstraZeneca’s 5 values through a period of accelerated growth and transformational change, with a focus on the top 5 European markets (France, Germany, Italy, UK and Spain). You will also actively contribute to driving world class product launches in four franchises (Lung Cancer, Women’s Cancer, Immuno-Oncology and Haematology), as well as working closely with the Global Advocacy and Government Affairs unit to create a strong network of advocacy partners and capabilities across Europe

The successful candidate will be a key partner for the Global Corporate Affairs teams, working closely with the regions, key markets and a broad mix of internal stakeholders across Commercial, Development, the Science units, Human Resources and Global Media Relations.

The typical accountabilities/responsibilities can be categorised into the follow areas;

  • External communications & PR

  • Patient Advocacy

  • Cross-functional collaboration & capacity building

Essential requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Science or Business Subject

  • Demonstrable experience as a pharmaceutical industry Communicator and/or Patient Advocate in more than one European market

  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills vital.

  • Digital knowledge

  • Strong interpersonal skills (Demonstrated self-confidence to interact productively with medical key opinion leaders)

  • Fluent English

  • Cross functional leadership

  • Ability to work effectively and flexibly in a highly collaborative environment; with strong interpersonal teamwork skills

  • Strong personal drive (self-starter) and will to succeed with entrepreneurial spirit

Desirable attributes:

  • Expertise in Oncology

  • Scientific expertise

  • Fluency in additional languages

  • Ability to anticipate and adapt to change, with good problem-solving skills, while maintaining momentum within an overall strategic plan

  • Project management capability
